My return to work following a 2 week vacation to Hawaii was bitter sweet. Sweet because the mug ferry left a new KXLY 4 mug on my desk. Yes!!! Bitter because someone left a turkey leg in my desk drawer. Yes, a full on turkey leg. Don’t laugh. It’s gross, especially since it’s been sitting there since I left on Thanksgiving.
How do I know you’re probably laughing? Because every time I tell the story, the person I’m talking to responds with laughter. Rude. The thing was even molding, touching my stuff and stinking up my desk drawer. Yes, I did alert the authorities. Their response: laughter. Well, not full on laughter but I could tell they thought it was funny. One of the authorities grinned and said “I left you the mug but I don’t know who left you the turkey leg”. The other authority told me that if I could “dust for finger prints” he’d get right on reprimanding the culprit. And when I told my husband about their response and said “they’d be mad too if they found a molding turkey leg in their drawer”, he responded by… you guessed it… laughing.
So, to the people who think a molding turkey leg in a desk drawer is funny, check your own desk drawer. May you still laugh when you find that molding turkey leg touching your stuff and stinking up your drawer. Haahahahaha (my evil laugh).
Here’s a panoramic of the most southern part of the United States. It’s 12 miles off Highway 11 between Hilo and Kona on the Kalae Kamaoa Puueo Kao National Historic Landmark District. Yes, my name is in the title. Cool.
Jan Chock (my mom) gives the 411 on the Christmastree lot at KTA Grocery Store in Hilo, HI. By the way, it doesn’t seem like Christmas when it’s 80 degrees and sunny out. Oh well, I’m definitely not complaining.
Sadly, we lost. But, here’s a clip of the Cougar excitement when we scored our only touchdown against UH. A sidenote: I laugh everytime I see this video and my dad “re-cheers” for the camera. Ha.
I have a good kid, but I had some pretty low expectations for our 6 hour plane trip to Hawaii. The 16 month old doesn’t sit still well. However, I was amazingly surprised at how well she did. She slept half the time. Dennis Patchin was on the same flight and asked if we “niquil-ed her out”. Nope, just good parenting. Haha, yeah right… we were just more lucky than anything.
Today’s blog: a response to Dave Erickson’s News at 5 blog yesterday. He posted this vid on Youtube. It’s called ‘News Terms With Kalae Chock’. It’s funny if you know I’m kidding. So please know that I am when I explain the very complicated concept of various camera shots.
Now, in an unrelated note. I like this new idea of “vlogging”, a term I’ve never heard but would love very much to try. So, readers standby. I plan on posting vlogs from the Hawaiian Islands later this week. A warning though: plan on being very jealous as you watch
You know in the winter, how it’s bitterly cold outside and you walk into a building and the heat instantly rushes over your body and it feels so good? Aaaaaaaaaaaahh. Lovely.
Well, it doesn’t happen when I walk into the KXLY studios at 3:30 in the morning. Instead, I walk in to find our producer with a blanket draped over her shoulders. Our associate producer, a man from Minnesota… from Minnesota I say… a man used to bitterly cold winters, with a hooded sweatshirt tied tight up over his head and ears, rubbing his hands together, blowing into them to keep warm. I kid you not. That really happens. As the morning goes on, people file in exclaiming the typical mantra we’re used to hearing during these winter months “It’s cold in here”. There are mornings when more than one person says “I can’t feel my fingers”. Seriously. I’m not even kidding. Mike Gonzalez has found a creative way to keep warm. He holds his hands in front of the printer, to catch the warm air as our scripts are printed off. Holding the papers themselves when they’re ‘hot off the press’ is another good way to warm up those hands. You can even hold them to your face for a quick warm up. We asked last year about getting the heat turned up for us morning folk who work over night or come in early. I think the reason we got turned down was because the studio lights come on at 5AM. They allegedly heat the space and create a hot environment for people sitting under the lights. I haven’t run into that problem though.
Now that winter has rolled around again, we find ourselves in the same predicament. Brrrrr. Freezing. I did talk to one of the powers that be about the cold temps and he said “Cold hands? Shake em’ out”. Haha. Thanks or the sympathy. Looks like I’ll be wearing my long johns until spring.
