Say It Aint So Seahawks

The Seahawks are in the middle of something that I’ve never seen the likes of.  Every receiver that suits up for the hawks this season finds a way to get hurt.  The latest came Sunday when backup quarterback Seneca Wallace was set to catch passes and he got hurt in pre-game warmups, he’s out 3-4 weeks with a bad calf.  Then on the first completion of the game, Logan Payne hurt his knee and he’s out for the rest of the year.  So here’s a “break”down of the Seahawks receiving corp.

Nate Burleson - out for the season, Deion Branch - recovering from knee surgery hasn’t played a down this year, Bobby Engram - hasn’t played a down this year, Ben Obamanu - out for the season, Logan Payne - out for the season.

That leaves only Courtney Taylor, Billy McMullen who has a whole 3 practices under his belt, and former coug Michael Bumpus who was called up off the practice squad last year.  The hawks had to do something, but what they did is a bit surprising, and disappointing.

The hawks have signed Koren Robinson.  That’s something I never thought would happen again.  Robinson was a first round draft choice for the hawks way back when, and was later let go because of numerous off-the-field problems.  You can’t cut a player because of disciplinary reasons, and then bring him back when you are desperate.  I understand that Robinson appears to have turned his life around and I hope for his sake that he has, but you just can’t do this.  After the hawks cut him loose he was then suspended for a year by the NFL when he was in Minnesota for off-the-field issues.  I understand that a different team might say things like, “we can surround Koren with the right guys, and put him in an atmosphere to succeed.”  The hawks can’t say this.  He has already failed in this atmosphere with these guys around him.  A few months ago I disagreed with the Bengals when they re-signed Chris Henry only months after cutting him for off-the-field issues.  I am a Seahawk fan and I am glad to hear that the team has brought in a receiver that could help the team.  But I can’t disagree with the Bengals and then agree with the Seahawks for doing the same thing.  I hope Koren Robinson truly has turned his life around, and I hope he finds a way to save his career, I just don’t think that it should be in Seattle.
