Like Seeing a Ghost….
During day three of Joseph Duncan’s sentencing trial jurors were shown three videos Duncan took of Shasta and Dylan at their remote campsite in Montana. The videos were heartbreaking to watch because of what we know happened to Dylan and Shasta during that period of time. It was haunting to watch Dylan eat watermelon, knowing he is now gone. Steve Groene walked out of the courtroom as several photos on Dylan and Shasta were shown to the jury- I don’t blame him. Can you imagine having to see a video/pictures of your son who is now dead? Every day it seems like this trial gets more difficult to stomach. That may sound dramatic, but it’s the truth. You think you’ve heard and seen the worst of it, then bam, federal prosecutors show you something that is even more chilling to watch. I know it’s only going to get worse. Prosecutors still plan to show several sexually explicit videos of Dylan and Duncan. The past few days have been tough, but I find strength knowing so many people are relying on me to tell them what is going on in the courtroom. Court will resume Monday morning.

From the bottom of my heart I thank you for your excellent coverage. I am one of those people who wants to know the accurate story of what happened. I intend to eventually read the transcripts( when available). Just wanted to let you know that I am one of those people depending on you…If I lived closer, I would try to be there…but I live in Philadelphia and am a teacher working in a summer program…so I do depend on YOU. Thank you, Thank you!
This morning’s paper quotes Duncan as saying, ” I wish I could kill myself”. It sure didn’t bother him to put a gun to Dylan’s head or to kill the brother, mother and fiance. So why didn’t he just kill himself to save all the taxpayers this money for the trial going on now. I am always amazed that even some people that have killed their children tried to kill themselves also but could not go through with it. I hope Duncan gets the death penalty but I have read that only one juror has to say no.
Annie,
I have said several prayers for you as you have been sent to sit through what will probably be one of the hardest stories that you will have to report on in your broadcast career. Please know that there are people out here keeping you in our thoughts. Thank you for having the courage to report this story to us.
