Are you afraid of seeing yourself in HD?

“Are you scared?” That’s the question going around the newsroom. “Are you scared to see yourself in HD?”. I’ve heard the talk in and out of the newsroom… that high definition television shows everything, that it’s not forgiving, and that every hair, line, and freckle is magnified tenfold for all of your viewers to see. But am I scared?

Not really. What you see is what you get. If I have a zit that even my light golden beige (that’s the official color name) air brush foundation can’t conceal… than I have a zit and you get to see it. Of course I’ll try to keep those wispy hairs  from getting too out of control, but I can’t guarantee I’ll spend countless minutes trying to maintain them.  High definition is going to allow me to look like me.

I won’t be just another news anchor with the same suit, the same make-up, and the same bob haircut. I’ll be the anchor with the short frizzy grey hair poking up off the top of my head. I swear that thing won’t go away. When I pull it out, it grows back with a vengeance. High definition TV really  allows viewers to see me as I am. No better, no worse… and I like that.

By the way, you don’t have to have a high definition television to notice the big change at KXLY 4.   The new equipment has drastically improved our picture for standard definition as well.   See you tomorrow on Good Morning Northwest HD.
