Pay it Forward…

The concept is simple: do a good deed for someone out of the kindness of your heart without expecting something in return.  How many of you can say you’ve “Paid it Forward?”  I know you’re probably thinking, ‘I don’t have enough money to help someone else out’.. well, I’m here to tell you money has nothing to do with it.

Freeman Buckhanan and his friend “Wolf” are proof all you need is a little time and will to make a BIG difference in your community.  Freeman and “Wolf” were homeless up until a Decemeber, when they finally got into a place of their very own. Patty McGruder with the Dirne Clinic helped them find the home and move in.  Freeman and “Wolf” were so grateful, they turned right around to help the next person in a similar situation.  From there, they just couldn’t be stopped- helping complete strangers find furniture, food and homes of their very own. Coming up tonight on KXLY HD News @ 6 we’re going to tell Freeman and “Wolf’s” story and show you just how much you can do with very little.  It’s truly an inspiration.

Considering the economic times I can only hope the spirit of giving catches on.  Ask yourself, how can I make a difference?  Maybe it’s paying for the latte for the guy behind you in line at Starbucks, dropping off a bundle of diapers for a struggling single mom, or volunteering at food bank.  It really doesn’t take much.  After watching tonight’s story, I challenge YOU to PAY IT FORWARD. Let me know how it turns out:) Have a good weekend.

What an inspiration to see that it takes nothing to step out and become powerful in helping others succeed. What are you doing TODAY to help others succeed? What am I doing to help others succeed? From nothing they reach from their heart and make a difference. To date 25 people paying it forward to how many others? It makes a difference! No longer on the street and definitely not alone. None with money, and that hasn’t been an obstacle. What a great story and what a great opportunity. Thanks KXLY for giving hope to all others during such a down time to know that the mass hysteria of the economic downturn is not that bad. After all, the homeless are finding homes. People are reaching out to help others. There are people with nothing, giving, caring and holding a hand up. We will survive and so will they. Excellent!

Pay it forward, I love this subject. It became part of me through the Chicken Soup books that made me take stock in Kleenex as I read them for years.
It has recently become the focus of my life and career to pay it forward. I have been struggling to start up an affordable art program to help creative people in our rural community develop their creative skills and promote the natural ability that I know exists here. My own art affects troubled youth easily. $5 art classes from a professional. Welll, my dad used to say an Expert is just a drip of water under extreme pressure….
Anyhow, I have spent the last 10+ weeks working with 15 students from good ole Elk… discovering the most amazing well of talent you could ever imagine. We went through some of the most difficult art concept lessons and practice on techniques to arrive at a show that opens this next Friday at another local venue willing to do what it takes to generate more culture in our community. Lady in the Woods Art Gallery on Hwy 2, one block South of Riverside High School on Hwy 2. Additionally, 2 other organizations have joined a cooperative movement here to improve things for everyone even though the economy ummmmh okay… Sucks! It is growing with a mind of it’s own.
    ART Smart in Elk
    Basic Drawing Course Art Show
    May 15th, 2009 – 5:30pm-7:30pm
This is the first graduating class of Art Smart in Elk and first student public art event for Art Smart in Elk. All have worked very hard and produced phenomenal final illustrations truly worth taking-the-time to come see. This show should allow students to experience, what it is like to be an artist in the real world. They can show their final project and one other piece of their choice. We are hoping they will enjoy visiting with the people they invite to Lady in the Woods Gallery (www.ladyinthewoods.com) on Friday evening. The gallery is just south of Riverside Family Foods and Riverside High School on Hwy 2, phone contact is 481-1698. We will exhibit 2 items from each student. We promise homemade yummy appetizers with sparkling apple cider to tantalize your taste buds. Family, friends and interested “art-loving” members of our community are invited to attend and meet the artists. Come see the real art talent hiding in our beautiful rural community of Elk. This is sponsored by Art Smart in Elk phone 509/292-5031.
