Ken Griffey Jr. is back in Seattle.  I’m really shocked that this happened.  I put a lot of trust into the people that reported that the deal with Atlanta was done.  Those reporters are very rarely wrong.  We have Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times on our radio show regularly and he is very accurate in his reporting, and I will not hesitate to trust him again.  So when I read on his blog yesterday that the deal was done, that was enough for me.  I went into the tank.  I couldn’t believe that my hero let me down like that.  Even when Griffey himself said he hadn’t made up his mind, I didn’t buy into that.  I don’t know what happened between yesterday and today, and I’m not sure I even care, I’m just happy he’s back.  Two hours before the reports started flying Dennis Patchin asked me if Griffey signed with Seattle if I would be happy.  I said I didn’t know, and honestly I thought it was a little tainted.  But when the reports came out, and website, after website was confirming the story I exploded.  I couldn’t be happier.  I feel like I’m 15 again, trying to figure out how to get to opening day.  The Mariners are probably going to be terrible again this year, they will probably be out of the playoff race by August, but I can’t wait for opening day.  I can’t wait to see my daughter put on the #24 jersey that I’m sure she will get for her birthday.  I can’t wait to sit and watch the M’s on T.V. with my family.  I know Griffey isn’t what he used to be, and he doesn’t have to be, he will give us small glimpses here and there of what was great about my childhood.  I can hear Dave Niehaus now……..”here’s the pitch to Junior….SWUNG ON AND BELTED……”

    Keith,

I listened to you yesterday on my way home from work. All the details about why Jr. left. And felt the way you did. Very let down the love affair was over. Listened some more today on the way home and realized as you guys did it was late on the East Coast and thought it would be at least tomorrow. Did a little shopping listened some more, got in the door turned on KXLY and top of the news there is was. I immedately
texted messaged my son in law in Longview. (They just moved to the coast to find work as even people with masters degrees in Sports Administration can’t find anything but part time work here.) Thats beside the point. He didn’t know what I was talking about. He thought Jr had already signed with Atlanta. He last message to me was “I’m so pumped now!” This sports crazy mother in law will be going to a least few games with the son-in-law this year. I’ve never been to Safeco (he has and wants to get me there) I’m so pumped!

Great! Another 100 LOSS year for the M’s. Amazing how all of you forgot how he LEFT town the last time and what he called the fans and said he had gotten death threats. Atlanta came to their senses and the same with the Nationals who also suck! He is completely worthless to a NL team and will maybe be a DH. Why should I be surprised? This is the team that though Baltimore cast-off Erik Bedard was the “savior”. Can you still hear the O’s fans laughing at you? A better pick up would have been trying to get Glavine for that joke they call a pitching staff!
