I’m A Skeptic No More

Usually I wouldn’t inject myself into a story. But when I was approached by Greg Torres to try out the exercise routine at Regeneration Point in Spokane I was really compelled to give this one a try myself. Greg’s wife Bettina owns the center and she has made me a believer in her use of fitness technology.

I consider myself a fitness enthusiast and when it comes to new techniques, gadgets and the latest fitness crazes I’m very skeptical. I’ve always believed that you can achieve your fitness goals by doing the basics, making sure you’re consistently going to the gym and being balanced with your nutrition. I felt with my knowledge of fitness and experience with different types of exercise I could better grasp the concept of Regeneration Point. I told Bettina I would give things a try for a period of one month and maintain a blog of my experience, progress and opinion of her approach to fitness.

The first thing I quickly realized is Regeneration Point is not a gym. The major emphasis is one on one interaction between clients and staff that include the use of state of the art technologies that really emphasise blood circulations, oxidation balance, strength and fitness without putting major stress on your joints. What they put in their mission statement is what they are practicing and that’s not always the case based on where you train. The thing I was most impressed with was the number of people who I met at Regeneration Point that told me how much better they feel since they started going. I will visit with some of them in our next blog.

First I want to introduce you to  some of the technology used at Regeneration Point. The most important piece of equipment used there is what’s called a Bemer, a machine that used micro circulation technology to increase blood flow.

There’s also the use of Vibration Technology.

There’s also the use of The unweighted treadmill.

MY EXPERIENCE AT REGENERATION POINT

Just to be clear, I am not being paid to say this nor do I have any interest in the Bemer and any of the technology used in this story, I am simply a journalist looking for answers. As I mentioned I’m not easily sold on fitness devices. I’ve often considered them fantasy, quackery and little more than placebos. But this time it felt different.

At the time of this writing I have completed 3 …1 1/2 hour sessions at Regeneration Point. I am so far amazed by the results. The reason, I worked out harder these past several days than I have for years. I completed my sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week in the morning. I then performed my usual workout that consists of cross training with weights, boxing and running. The thing I was most surprised about was I did not have any soreness after any of my workouts! The next day I sprang up out of bed and was amazed how much energy and elasticity my muscles had.

MY SESSIONS INCLUDED

The session starts out with a relaxing BEMER session where you lie on your back and relax and let the micro circulation technology flow through your body. The funny thing is you don’t really feel anything when the BEMER is in use so initially my skeptic meter was high. But Bettina explained to me how and why the machine works. I then moved on to stretching. Something I don’t do enough of. Bettina put me on the stretch chair that felt amazing.

Honestly I stretched muscles I didn’t think I had on that chair. We then moved onto the harness tread mill. It was extremely challenging. The machine worked my balance, side glutes, legs and core. The interesting thing was how I felt I got a challenging cardio workout with little stress on my knees.

I then moved onto the vibration plate machine. This thing shakes your entire body. It was challenging to lift light weights and the band as your body shook like an earthquake. When it was over I had a pretty good sweat going and a burn in my muscles. The session is finished out by revisiting the Bemer. When I finished the session I felt limber and energized. After my first session I wound up doing a shoulder workout, boxed 30 minutes then ran 3 miles. The next day I was expecting major soreness. There was none! My skepticism was gone.

Includes BEMER (30 min), Stretch Chair (6 min), Unweighted Treadmill (15 min), Unweighted Vibration Table (15 min), Band System (6-10 min)
