I recently spoke with an old friend Sylvia Brown about a wonderful organization that’s stepping up to help the Spokane Community. It’s the Spokane Eastside Reunion Association. Their mission is powered by faith and the word of God. I talked with Sylvia about their upcoming event at Liberty Park on August 11th and the mission of the organization.

Spokane Eastside Reunion Association is a collaborative effort that strives to restore and promote a revitalized sense of community in our city’s neighborhoods.  Its organizers are grounded by their devout sense of faith and seek to further advance God’s mission in both word and in deed.  Together they recognize the despair that riddles so many of our world’s people, most specifically those who are marginalized, and thus it is together that we join hands and labor for change.  It is our hope that through our authentic optimism and sincere sense of purpose, we will be successful in inspiring our people in believing that there is always something worth celebrating.

Tell me a little bit about your organization?

The Spokane Eastside Reunion Association is a non-profit that strives to restore and promote a revitalized sense of community in our city neighborhoods.  We provide the following services to the community: Soup Kitchen, Eastside Lawn & Snow Removal services for the elderly and disabled, and Youth Mentor and Tutoring programs as well as Basketball Camps and other events.

This the third year of the event at Liberty Park….

How has the community received it?

Very well! There has been a consistent growth in attendance each year.  The first year there was estimated to be 500 – 600 neighbors in attendance.  Last year there was 1200 to 1500 attending and this year we anticipate even larger community member participating in the reunion.   Our partners at the East Community Center has informed there is a BIG buzz and excitement about this year’s event.

Is there any specific needs for the event?

We are in need of volunteers and donations not only for the event but thereafter.

What do you hope to achieve by putting the event on?

This event is another way we want to give back to the community by hosting a community event to celebrate the past, present and future.  There will be free food, entertainment for all –games, music, talent show, fashion show, vendor booths, and much more!

How can people get involved in your organization?

They are welcome to go to our website:  www.spokaneeastsidereunion.com or email:  info@spokaneeastsidereunion.com
