Is the President contemplating Martial Law?……..

I’m Mike Fitzsimmons with commentary on 920-KXLY…….

Last Friday, a mysterious executive order was issued by President Barack Obama regarding disaster preparedness.   Some believe that this is a hint that the Administration is contemplating the possibility of Martial Law….perhaps in advance of a war with Iran.     The White House dismisses the notion saying that the order is a standard, routine piece of business.    A similar order was issued by both the Clinton and the Bush administrations.   But that explanation isn’t calming concerns that the order gives President Obama absolute control over the country’s natural resources.     Some speculate that Obama is preparing for war with Iran.

As you know, the U.S. is pursuing a policy of sanctions against Iran   The Obama Administration has favored increased economic pressure and isolation of the Iranian regime.     The President believes that Iran is not close enough to a nuclear weapon to take more stringent action.   Obama believes there is time to let a diplomatic approach convince Iran to abandon its push for a nuclear weapon.    We learned a couple of weeks ago that Israel doesn’t share President Obama’s confidence in diplomacy, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he supports the effort.    Netanyahu made it clear however, that Israel will take action to stop Iran’s weapons production program whenever it thinks it must.

The troubling Martial Law scenario may arise from an emergency model that the Obama Administration has been working with, should Israel actually attack Iran’s nuclear complexes.  The model projects a retaliatory action by Iran which may result in a war.  Obama’s National Defense Resources Preparedness order gives the president authority to approve the dispensing of all domestic energy, production, transportation, food, and water supplies as he deems necessary to protect national security.   That kind of action in wartime is not unprecedented, but this is not wartime, at least not as it relates to Iran.   Thus this order is certainly over the top given the present circumstances.
