nightspokaneWith a two-year old at home and another tot on the way, my husband and I don’t get out as much as we used to. So, Saturday night, we decided to head downtown to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We tried to get a reservation at the same restaurant we’ve celebrated several other Valentine’s Days, but were told we wouldn’t need one, there wouldn’t be a wait. Boy, was that guy wrong – there was a wait there (Europa) and pretty much every other restaurant downtown!

As we made our way towards Riverpark Square (we had movie tickets, too) we stopped at probably 5 places along the way. Same story – 45 minute to an hour wait. Yes, it was the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, but it was only 6:30! And, it’s Spokane! We peeked into several other places and saw crowded tables and lines of people waited to be seated. We finally ended up at Madeline’s for awesome Reuben sandwiches and still made it to the movie on time. It was one heck of a consolation prize – the sandwiches were incredible!

While our night was inconvenienced by the crowds of people downtown, it was great to see so many people out enjoying a relatively warm February evening. Is it a sign the economy is bouncing back? Maybe. Is it a sign we need a resveration from now on? Absolutely.
