I've just finished reading the book and am really looking forward to seeing the film on DVD. Like the film, the book requires a lot of attention, I'd still recommend it though :)

With so much information being thrown at us, I wish that there was much more time for all of it to just sink in but I liked the fact that the film made you pay attention to every little detail as this story just kept building and building. Everybody here in this cast is great too, especially Oldman who perfectly brings this flick together. Good review. Check out mine when you get the chance.

Comment on It will be nice when Joe Shogan no longer runs Spokane City Council meetings….. by Don Fisher

Have you ever listened to the public forum, Mr. Fitzsimmons? These political officials have had to put up with the often incomprehensible statements of the general public FOR YEARS. You can talk about how council meetings for the new upcoming elected officials will change, but as long as the public forum remains, so will the inane rantings of the general public.

And regarding the threats of violence, thank you for not including all the facts. According to the Spokesman Review, in February 2009, Shogan had received multiple death threats by David Elton, who had also threatened to harm Betsy Cowles. Elton also dismissed them as "a joke," and ended up in jail. Apparently the courts felt his words weren't "silly interpretations," as you put. I would justify these previous threats as a reason to suspect anyone else who uses the phrase "take [Verner] out" as viable, wouldn't you agree? These are public figures, Mr. Fitzsimmons. Every word should be taken seriously.

Our civic leaders are people who serve the public, and have taken the initiative to fill an invaluable, noble role. If you ever feel the need to step up and run for public office, do us all a favor and show us how it's done. Until then, please show some respect for those who perform a job that comes with a responsibility that may be more than you can fathom.

Sincerely,
Don Fisher

Agreed, 3d brought a lot to the film in certain scenes like the stampede but it wasn't overpowering like in some other films. I think it's just great to have a chance to see a classic film like this in the cinemas again.

Mike,
I have a great respect for your opinions with this exception. I wonder what your connection to the Spokane Police Dept is, or why you are so passionate in your defense of the SPD in all circumstances. I too have the utmost respect for those who have to deal with the derelicts of the world and the risks they face daily, but I see this salute as blatant disrespect for the court, for the family, for the citizens of Spokane. You are looking at this with blinders on as you seem to do in all cases of any officer error. The Creach case is inexcusable in my opinion, and I am just as passionate as you are in my belief that the officer failed to do the job the public hired him to do. If the officer was just following his training as I have heard you angrily announce to those who have questioned the events of this case, then the training needs to be changed. Spokane deserves better.
Respectfully,
Barbara Bentley

It's easy to explain why Kermit's depressed--the movie is about the depression. Only it veils it's politics in good old American feel good ignorance. Look at the people in the movie's telethon audience. They all appear to be working class and in desperate need of a lift--just like many of us out there. I loved the movie, but the feel-good-no-matter-what-you-are-experiencing message, or the instruction that we've got all we really need right here, is disturbing and, it seems to me, quite calculating--a soothing manipulation of the peasants in hard these times. Tell the guy who has just lost his job to just look about him and feel good. Sure, he might love the people he's with, but how can he manage to feel good if he's the one expected to feed and clothe his family. I hope all the parents of America do take their kids to the Muppet movie. I hope they enjoy the time with their kids. However, I also hope they read the film with a grown-up's intellect. It packs quite a wallop politically. Having a multi-billion dollar company market a package telling me to just feel good--no matter who is stealing all the wealth--is pretty darn disturbing, if you ask me. Why are the critics not writing about this? It's sooooo obvious! Are they clueless???

I’m sorry I missed this one while it was in the theater. I have it in my Blockbuster Movie Pass queue now, so I’ll end up watching it soon. Makes me glad to have Blockbuster too, since it won’t be available at Redbox until sometime in November. I probably wouldn’t have even tried it out if I weren’t an employee / subscriber of DISH Network. Good thing I am because it’s a great deal, for $10 a month I get DVD’s, Blurays and video games by mail, with the option of in-store exchanges, instant streaming and 20 movie channels. And if that’s not good enough, I love telling new DISH customers that they can get Blockbuster Movie Pass free for 12 months.
